Chicago Sports & Recreation
No matter what the season, Chicago is full of active sports and leisure enthusiasts who enjoy every interest under the sun, from snow-shoeing in the winter to water-skiing in the summer. Beautiful Lake Michigan is one of the top destinations for tourists and locals alike. Chicago has miles of lakefront trails for walking, running, biking, in-line skating, dog-walking and more. In addition to swimming, boating, sailing, fishing, kayaking, and other water activities, the gorgeous sandy beaches are a hot spot for volleyball, Frisbee, catch, badminton, sunbathing, and sand castle-building – to name a few. Citywide amateur athletic teams supply residents with a way to play their favorite sports for fun, while public fitness facilities and private health clubs are all the rage for staying in shape. During the cold-weather months, the snowy parks make for great cross-country ski paths and there’s even a designated sledding hill in the South Loop.
Participating in sports and recreation is easy to do in Chicago, but what about getting a chance to see the professionals at work? Not a problem, Chicago has seven pro sports teams. Fans can take their pick of sports to follow, or be a Super Fan and root for all the home teams. Many celebrity-athletes have come out of Chicago, including the one and only Michael Jordan, whose influence is seen all over town in restaurants, retail stores, and charities.
